Shrapnel Stage Company, a 2014 Works In Progress Louisiana grant recipient, is an edgy new theatre company created by an ambitious group of North Louisiana-based film/stage veterans and up-and-coming actors. Their motto is: "good art is like shrapnel, it stays with you!"

Their project consists of seven (7) performances of Sharr White's award-winning play “The Other Place” to be staged in the Engine Room Theatre of The Shreveport Regional Arts Council in the Spring of 2016.

The plot is as follows: lead character Dr. Juliana Smithton is a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man and her own health is in jeopardy. But, of course, nothing is as it seems. Piece by piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present, and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface with a surprising ending that forces her to confront her greatest fear.

"The Other Place" premiered Off-Broadway, and was an Outer Critics Circle Award nominee for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play. This will be its Louisiana premiere.

Like other thought-provoking plays Shrapnel will produce, “The Other Place” addresses serious - and sometimes uncomfortable - issues. The company's mission is to use theatre as a medium to acknowledge societal issues, and work within our community to address them.  This inaugural production will pave the way for Shrapnel Stage Company to bring other thought-provoking, nontraditional performances to Shreveport/Bossier.

The cast is comprised of some of this area's finest actors: Jennifer Bush, Mat Latz, Gordon Christy, and Christi Saunders Fortson. Other Shrapnel members will work backstage, in the box office, and on our media campaign.

In addition, Shrapnel is one of the few local theatre companies that will compensate its actors!  By paying local artists for their hard work, we hope to raise the bar for all regional performance arts groups, and contribute to Northwest Louisiana's cultural and economic well-being.

100% of your contribution will be invested in:

  • purchasing performance rights to the play

  • compensating a local technical director

  • buying supplies for set construction

  • printing and advertising costs.

  • All ticket sales will be dedicated to paying our actors, and securing and presenting our next ground-breaking production.

Shrapnel Stage Company cannot stage this important play without your help!
